Live Results HOUSTON – UTSA senior All-American Ryanne Dupree and junior Morgan Moszee won individual titles Friday as the UTSA women’s track and field team sits in second place after six events at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships held at Bill Yeoman Field House.
Dupree, the 2005 SLC Outdoor Women’s Athlete of the Year, scored 19 points by herself by winning the pentathlon and finishing second in the high jump and eighth in the long jump. Dupree (right) broke her own school record in the pentathlon, scoring an NCAA provisional-qualifying 4,055 points for a 148-point win over runner-up Crystal Chang of Stephen F. Austin. Dupree posted her previous personal-best of 4,035 points in winning the Zia Classic on Jan. 28. Today, she posted marks of 8.50 in the 60-meter hurdles, 5-7 in the high jump, 39-11 Ľ in the shot put, 18-6 Ľ in the long jump and 2:24.25 in the 800m in winning her sixth conference crown.
Dupree’s busy day included a 5-6 clearance for runner-up honors in the high jump. She actually tied champion Audrey Azu of SFA with her height but had one more miss in the series. Dupree leaped to an eighth-place measure of 18-11 Ľ in the long jump for her 19th point of the day. She was the high point scorer with 25.5 at the 2005 SLC Outdoor. She will have a chance to add to her 19 points as she posted the fourth-fastest qualifying time in the semifinal round of the 60m hurdles, an 8.57 clocking.
Moszee (left) soared to a career-best mark of 20-4 Ľ for top honors in the long jump. The 2005 SLC Outdoor champion in the same event, Moszee bettered runner-up Roshunda Betts’ 19-8 ľ effort by nearly seven inches in grabbing her second conference title.
Moszee also qualified for the finals in the 60 meters, clocking a 7.67 in the prelims and a 7.64 in the semifinals.
The distance medley relay team of junior Veronica Silva, junior Diane Smith, senior Rita Lambert and junior Hope Jimenez finished second with a 12:18.98 clocking behind Lamar’s winning time of 12:02.15.
Silva and Lambert also posted the fastest (5:09.85) and fourth-fastest (5:12.58) times in the prelims of the mile run, advancing to Saturday’s final. Smith and Jimenez both advanced in the 800m as Smith posted the fastest qualifier (2:18.03) and Jimenez the third-fastest time (2:19.28).
In other finals action for the women, junior Natasha Ramos finished fourth in the 20-pound weight throw with a 52-1 measure and senior Kandace Traywick took eighth in the pentathlon with 3,283 points.
In the team standings, the Roadrunners stand second with 43 points behind defending champion SFA’s 49. Sam Houston State is third with 30.
The SLC Indoor Championships continue Saturday at Yeoman Field House.
