SAN ANTONIO - The UTSA men’s and women’s track and field teams head to Houston for the Southland Conference Indoor Championships held Friday-Saturday, Feb. 17-18, at Bill Yeoman Field House. 2006 Southland Conference Indoor Championships Friday-Saturday, Feb. 17-18 Bill Yeoman Field House Houston, Texas The 19th-annual women’s championship begins at 8:30 a.m. Friday with the 60-meter hurdle leg of the pentathlon. Men’s competition in the 27th-annual event begins with the 60-meter hurdles of the heptathlon at 8:50 a.m. Field events will start at 3 p.m. on Friday with the women’s 20 pound weight throw. Running preliminary events are scheduled to start at 4 p.m. with the last race on Friday slated for 8:40 p.m. Saturday’s competition begins with the continuation of the heptathlon at 8:30 a.m. The day’s field events will start at 11 a.m. with running finals slated for 1:30 p.m. 2005 Rewind: The Roadrunner men finished second behind Stephen F. Austin last year, while the women were fourth behind Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston State and Texas State. Individually, UTSA won four individual and one relay title as David Burnett took the men’s 400 meters and Brandon Buteaux won the men’s heptathlon, while Rosalind Holmes swept the 60m and 200m and anchored the 4x400m relay team (along with Diane Smith, Lyndsey Sidney and Ryanne Dupree) to gold. Holmes was named the SLC Women’s Indoor Outstanding Track Performer for her efforts. SLC History: The women have not won an indoor league title since taking three straight from 1992-94, while the men have never won an indoor SLC crown. The women have captured 36 individual titles and the men own 25.
