Week In Review:
UTSA won the Las Cruces Hilton Invitational last weekend, posting a 4-1 record behind some impressive offensive numbers. The Roadrunners, three-time defending NCAA home run champions, got off to a good start in that category with 18 long balls in the five games, as UTSA defeated Portland State, 11-3, Colorado State, 12-2, Utah, 8-0, and Ohio State, 9-8, in eight innings, with the only loss coming to host New Mexico State in the final at-bat, 3-2. Senior Mel Torres hit four home runs and batted .579 with 10 runs batted in en route to being named tournament most valuable player and Southland Conference Hitter of the Week. Freshman Brittany Cantu set a school record with three round-trippers in the Colorado State game and also hit four for the tournament, while sophomore Kim Chavez (.500), junior Aimee Murray (.471) and senior Amanda Horton (.467) all hit better than .400. Sophomore right-hander was solid in the circle, posting a 3-1 record and a 2.33 earned-run average en route to earning SLC Pitcher of the Week honors.

Dandy Debut:
First year head coach Lori Cook earned a victory in her first game as a Division I head coach with UTSA’s 11-3 win against Portland State. Her 4-1 start matches that of former head Corrie Hill in 1999. Hill had a 4-3 record through her first seven games at UTSA.

Going, Going, Gone:
UTSA has led the NCAA in home runs per game in each of the last three seasons. The Roadrunners got off to a great start with 18 in their first contests over the weekend in Las Cruces, N.M. Mel Torres and Brittany Cantu both hit four, while Amanda Horton launched three. Aimee Murray, senior Jessica Els and freshman Rachel Rackley posted two apiece and Kim Chavez added one. Dating back to the beginning of the 2003 season, UTSA has slugged an amazing 302 home runs in 169 games (1.79 average).
