SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women’s tennis team improved to 3-2 on the season with a 6-1 victory against North Texas on Sunday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Roadrunners won the doubles point by winning all three matches. Tanya Hasking and Karen Scida combined for an 8-6 decision over Megan Schmulbach and Sammie Moreton at No. 1, while Barbara Mooney and Nathalie Wallin also were 8-6 winners over Ingrid Stockinger and Aziza Aba Butain at No. 2. Monica Drabkova and Sandra Kukla posted an 8-4 victory at No. 3 over Sara Giles and Ashley Davis.
In singles action, UTSA won at 5-of-6 matches, headlined by Wallin’s 7-5, 6-2 decision over Lynley Wasson at No. 1. Kukla took a tight 6-4, 6-7, (10-7) decision at No. 2 over Butain, while Drabkova was a 7-5, 6-7, (10-4) winner at No. 3 over Schmulbach.
Scida won 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 over Moreton and Eva Silvester breezed past Ashley Davis at No. 6, 6-0, 6-0. Giles won the only point of the day for the Mean Green with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Mooney at No. 5. The Roadrunners return to the courts on Feb. 24 when they travel to College Station to take on Texas A&M at noon.
