Buteaux named SLC Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

PLANO, Texas - UTSA senior All-American Brandon Buteaux has been named Southland Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week for his NCAA provisional-qualifying performance over the weekend, the league office announced Tuesday.

Buteaux met the NCAA provisional standard in his first heptathlon of the season, scoring 5,202 points as the top collegiate finisher at the Houston Indoor Invitational on Friday-Saturday. Buteaux, an indoor All-American and the 2005 SLC Indoor champion in the event last year, was second overall behind former Texas A&M standout Allen Bulick in posting the top mark in the conference this season.

It marks the second straight week a Roadrunner has garnered the league’s weekly track and field honors as senior Ryanne Dupree won the women’s award last week.

Sam Houston State’s Chaterra Blake was the women’s athlete of the week.
