MISSOURI CITY, Texas – Behind strong rounds from senior John Elizondo and freshman Kyle Collins, the UTSA men’s golf team is tied for fourth place after 36 holes of the Rice Intercollegiate contested Monday at Willowisp Country Club (par 70/6,700 yards).

Elizondo is just one shot out of the individual lead after firing rounds of one-over-par 71 and four-over 74, leaving him in a tie for third place at five-over 145 with Brian Grossman of Stephen F. Austin. Collins is in a five-way tie for ninth place after carding an eight-over 73-75=148. Michael Nicoletti of Santa Clara and Tim Courtney of Richmond are tied for the individual lead at four-over 144.

In the team standings, the Roadrunners are tied with Richmond for fourth place with 18 holes to play on Tuesday. UTSA turned in a 300-301=601, just eight strokes behind day-one leader Santa Clara (593). Colorado State is in second (594) and Rice is third (598).

Sophomore transfer Thomas Kearney is tied for 31st (77-75=152), while junior Kitt Thabungkan and sophomore Nick Olivarri are tied for 54th (80-77=157) and 67th (79-82=161), respectively. Sophomore Sean Burch is in 74th (85-83=168) playing as an individual.

The third round tees off at 8 a.m.
