UTSA Women’s Tennis handles Texas-El Paso, 5-2

SAN ANTONIO – Despite losing the point in doubles match, the UTSA women’s tennis team won five out of the six singles matches to get the 5-2 win over Conference-USA member Texas-El Paso at the UTSA Tennis Center Sunday afternoon.

Although the Miners were up 1-0, the Roadrunners rebounded in singles action winning 5-of-6 matches. Freshmen Nathalie Wallin got the Runners started with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Teri Wilkerson of UTEP at No. 1 singles, teammate Sandra Kukla breeze by Megan Pritchard of UTEP, 6-2, 6-0.

Winning their matches were freshman Karen Scida and senior Barbara Mooney. Sophomore Tanya Hasking won a tough match against UTEP’s Sandra Spirta, 6-2, 2-6, 7-5.

Meanwhile, the Miners took the doubles point winning all two out of the three matches, including a 9-8 decision at No.1 with King and Pritchard over Hasking and Scida.

UTSA returns to action Feb. 12 against North Texas at the UTSA Tennis Courts, first serve slated at 10 a.m.
