SAN ANTONIO – UTSA (11-7, 6-1 SLC) put four players in double figures, as the Roadrunners held off Louisiana-Monroe(13-6, 5-3 SLC), 71-70, in Southland Conference women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon in the Convocation Center.

The Roadrunners extend their winning streak to a season-high four games, meanwhile, the Lady Indians five-game winning streak was snapped.

Junior forward Vivian Ewalefo’s (right) 16 points led UTSA in scoring. Freshman guard Monica Gibbs added a career-high 14 points, while senior guard Nicole Dunson and senior center Lacy Mingee chipped in with 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Leading ULM in scoring was senior forward Michelle Biley and sophomore guard LaJenna Howard with 12 points apiece.

Ewalefo opened the game scoring seven of the first nine points for UTSA, as they jumped early on Louisiana-Monroe 9-3 with 15:57 in the first half. A 3-pointers and pull up jumper by Dunson extended the lead to 16-6 with 11:56 remaining in the frame.

Louisiana-Monroe stormed to a 36-34 lead with a 7-2 run with 16:14 to go in the game. Biley led the run with three points scored. This would be the only time ULM would have a lead.

UTSA regained the lead 40-38 on a layup made by Ewalefo, then a jumper by freshman guard Farren Fox pushed the lead to four points (42-38) with 14:16 left in the game.

ULM cut the lead to 70-67 with a 7-0 run, capped off by Williams’ three straight free throws. Then a Fox’s free throw gave UTSA a four points cushion with less than 10 seconds remaining; however, Howard’s 3-pointer from the top of the key pulled Louisiana-Monroe within one point (71-70).
