UTSA Women’s Basketball team looks for fourth win in a row

SAN ANTONIO - The UTSA women’s basketball team put its three-game winning streak on the line against Southland Conference member Louisiana-Monroe Lady Indians.

Setting The Scene
The Roadrunners enter Saturday’s game with a season-high three-game winning streak, as they host SLC member Louisiana-Monroe Lady Indians in the Convocation Center at 2 p.m. The game can be seen on Time Warner channel 50.

Scouting Report On The Lady Indians
ULM opened conference play with two straight losses, but since then they have won five consecutive games, including its one point victory (62-61) over UTSA earlier this month. The Lady Indians handed Texas State a 69-63 loss on Thursday night in San Macros, Texas. Sophomore guard LaJenna Howard’s 13 points led three players in double digits, while junior center Nedra Winston led the team with nine rebounds. Howard tops the team in scoring averaging 11.8 points per game and senior center Aishie Banks ranks second in scoring (10.2 ppg).

Last Meeting Between UTSA and Louisiana-Monroe
ULM’s Michelle Biley banker with two seconds left in game gave them the 62-61 victory back on Jan. 14 in Monroe, La. The Lady Indians lead the all-time series 20-9 and have defeated the Roadrunners three straight times. ULM is 8-7 in the Convocation Center.

Another 10+ Season
With the win over Northwestern State, Coach Rippetoe-Blair has secured her sixth straight season with 10 or more wins.

Ending Runs
The Roadrunners snapped two streaks against Northwestern State. The first streak was a six-game losing streak to the Lady Demons. The second streak they haltered was Northwestern State’s three-game winning streak. UTSA also ended SFA’s six-game winning streak.

Home Sweet Home
The Roadrunners are 6-3 mark in the Convocation Center this season and have won their last four home games by a margin of 14.2 points per game. they have outscored their opponents 284-227.

Runners D Halts Ladyjacks
UTSA’s defense come on strong as they held the league’s top scoring offense, 74.5 points per game, to a season-low 48 points. The Roadrunners held the Ladyjacks to under 40% shooting for the game.

Sandefur Named SLC Player of the Week
The Kingfisher, Okla., native earned Aeropostale/Southland Conference Player of the Week honor for her performance last week from Jan. 17 through Jan. 21. For the week, she averaged 16.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. She shot 67% from the field and 88% from the free throw line.

Runners Ranks In SLC
Nicole Dunson leads the league in 3-point field goal percentage (.468) and 3-pointers made per game (2.25) and ranks fifth in field goal percentage (.464). Point guard Monica Gibbs stands seventh averaging 3.57 assists per game, while center Lacy Mingee ranks 11th in field goal percentage (.432).

Katie’s Dominance Over Bearkats
Sandefur’s career-high 21 points paced UTSA to a 75-71 overtime win over Sam Houston State Bearkats in Huntsville, Texas. Sandefur had 11 of her 21 points came in overtime, including nine straight points. She made good on all of her 11 free throw attempts.

Free Aide For The Runners
UTSA shot a season-best 84% from free throw line connecting on 26-of-31. The Runners were 12-of-14 in overtime.

Marking Her 3-Point Territory
In just her second season at UTSA Nicole Dunson began the season 11th on the all-time list with 46 career made 3-pointers. She leaped her way to fourth place with 83 trifectas made. Dunson has connected on 37 3-point baskets this season. She leads the team in 3-point shooting percentage at 47% and ranks first in the SLC. Also, Dunson ranks 27th in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage.

Making Noise In The Scoring and Rebounding Dept...
Sandefur has collected 424 rebounds for 10th in the all-time rebounding list. Fellow teammate, Mingee ranks 11th with 404 boards. Both players are on pace of cracking the top 10 list in rebounds.
Mingee became the 16th Runners to eclipse the 700 points mark. She currently ranks 14th with 757 points in the all-time scoring list. Also making a push in the scoring department is Sandefur who ranks 17th with 675 points.

Breaking Long Distance Record
UTSA set single-game records for most 3-pointers made (12) and attempts (32) in the loss vs. Buffalo on Dec. 30, 2005. The previous mark of trifectas made was 11 set against Davidson on Dec. 3, 2005. The old record for attempts was 30 tries against Southland Conference foe Northwestern State on Feb. 28, 1993.

Looking For Number 200 Career Wins And 100th School Win
Head Coach Rae Rippetoe-Blair is two wins shy of reaching 200 career wins. Also, she is nine wins away from her 100th school victory.

High Expectations In The SLC
UTSA was picked to finish second in the SLC coaches and SIDs polls behind Texas-Arlington.

Who’s Next For The Roadrunners
The Roadrunners travel to Thibodaux, La., for an SLC matchup against Nicholls State on Feb. 2 at 7 p.m.
