After a two week lay-off, UTSA gets back on the court when they travel to Tempe, Ariz. to face No. 10 Arizona State at the Wells Fargo Arena, tip-off set for 7:30 p.m. (CST).
Scouting Report On The Sun Devils
ASU is coming off its fifth consecutive win with a 68-52 win over Fresno State back on Dec. 15 in Fresno, Calif. Sophomore forward Emily Westerberg, who ranks second on the team in scoring (12.1ppg), led the way with 15 points and four rebounds. Senior forward Amy Denson came off the bench and dropped 12 points in the win. The Sun Devils out-assisted the Bulldogs 17-11. ASU shot over 50 percent from the floor for the entire game and were 13-of-14 from the free line.
Last Meeting Between UTSA and ASU
ASU leads the all-time series 2-0 vs. UTSA. In their last meeting, the Sun Devils pounded the Roadrunners 57-40 in Tempe back on Nov. 18, 2000. UTSA is 0-1 at the Wells Fargo Arena.
Techesters Come Alive In The Second Half
The Runners were leading 34-31 at the end of the first half. With 16:45 left in the game, La. Tech went on a 6-0 run to take its first lead (38-36) since the 8:03 mark of the first half and pulled ahead by as many as 11 points later in the frame. La. Tech shot 50 percent in the second half, after shooting 32% from the floor in the first.
Runners Tamed The Wildcats
In its 75-69 win over Davidson, UTSA held the Wildcats to 36% shooting from the field, including 23% behind the arc. UTSA’s bench outscored Davidson’s bench 23-16. Brown had nine points off the pine to lead UTSA.
It’s Raining 3’s
Against Davidson, UTSA broke the old mark of 10 3-pointers made back on Feb. 28, 1993 against Northwestern State by nailing 11 3-pointers, while shooting a season-best 61% beyond the arc. Dunson made a career-high five treys, while Davis swished three trifecters.
Destiny Earns All-Tounrament
Brown, a 6-0 forward, earned all-tournament honors at the Gene Hackerman Invitational. She averaged 12.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Brown went 9-for-10 from the free throw line and shot 44% from the floor.
Moving On Up
Dunson began the season 11th on the all-time list with 46 career made 3-pointers. She has leaped her way to fifth with 61 trifecters made. Dunson has connected on 15 3-point baskets this season.
Setting New Marks
Sandefur has collected 392 rebounds for 12th in the all-time rebounding list and is eight boards shy of 400. Fellow teammate, Mingee ranks 15th with 361 boards. Both players are on pace of cracking the top 10 list in rebounds.
Mingee is 16 points shy of becoming the 16th Runners to eclipse the 700 points mark. She currently ranks 16th with 684 points in the all-time scoring list. Also making a push in the scoring department is Sandefur who ranks 20th with 581 points.
Freshman Bring Their Game To College Ranks
Gibbs, Fox, and Brown have made the transition from high school ball to college ball well known, as they have combined for 17.0 points per game in their first eight games and have combined a total of four games in double-digits. Brown has accounted for two game with 10 or more points.
Islanders Have Runners Number
TAMU-CC remained 4-0 against UTSA with the 56-44 victory on Nov. 29. The Islanders used a 10-5 run with 14:19 left in game to pull away from the Runners, after a cold shooting performance in the first half (29%). The Islanders’ bettered their field goal percentage to nearly 40 percent in the second half.
Soar Homecoming For A Roadrunner
Nicole Dunson, a native of Corpus Christi, Texas, led the team with 13 points and season-high six rebounds, as she played in front of friends and family members. Dunson shot 6-of-11 from the field in 40 minutes of action.
Destiny Shines Against The Aggies
Freshman forward Destiny Brown set career-highs with 18 points and eight rebounds, five of which came on the offensive side, against New Mexico State. The Stillwater, Okla., native was 6-of-10 shooting from the floor.
Fast Start For UTSA
UTSA’s 4-1 mark was the second best start in school history. During the 1996-97 season, former UTSA coach Terry Gray began the season winning his first six games.
First Timers
This season UTSA will play four teams for the first time in school history. Beginning with West Virginia and Florida A&M in the Central Florida Tournament. Davidson on Dec. 2 at the Rice Tournament. Play host to Buffalo in the Wells Fargo New Year’s Classic on Dec. 30.

Who’s Next For The Roadrunners
UTSA returns home for a four-game homestand when they host the Wells Fargo New Year’s Classic on Dec. 30-31. The Runners will face Colorado State on Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
