Mingee's season-high 21 points pace UTSA to 61-38 win over New Mexico State

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - UTSA senior center Lacy Mingee's season-high 21 points paced the women's basketball team to a 61-38 win over New Mexico State on the final day of the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic at the Convocation Center.
Freshman forward Destiny Brown added a career-high 18 points and eight boards, while freshman guard Monica Gibbs collected seven rebounds and dished out a team-high three assists.
New Mexico State was led by freshman forward Kalei Nacne with nine points, while junior forward Janel Joy hauled in a team-high seven rebounds.
The Roadrunners improve to 4-1 with their second straight win, meanwhile the Aggies dropped their fourth consecutive game and remain winless on the year.
UTSA started out of the gates on fire with a 14-5 run in the first half. Mingee and Gibbs combined for 11 points during the run.
New Mexico State trimmed the lead to 18-12 at the 10-minute mark when junior guard Javci Stone connected on a 3-point basket and a jumper by sophomore guard Sherell Neal.
The Roadrunners went on a 12-6 run to close out the first half, with Mingee scoring six points.
The Runners shot 44 percent from the floor, while the Aggies shot a season-low 18 percent in the first half. The Aggies went 6-for-33 from the field and 2-for-11 behind the 3-point line.
UTSA built a 17-point lead (44-27) with a 14-9 run on lay-up made by Brown with 12:22 left in the game. Brown and Mingee combined for 10 points.
The Aggies cut the deficit to 14 points (47-33), on a fastbreak lay-up by Kmitaite with 8:59 left in the game. This would be the closest New Mexico State would get in the game.
The Roadrunners closed the out the game with a 14-5 run to give them their largest lead of the game, 61-38.
UTSA hits the road on Nov. 29 when they visit Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in non-conference basketball action at the American Bank Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
