Mingee leads UTSA past Arkansas-Little Rock, 52-44

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA senior center Lacy Mingee scored a team-high 11 points to lead the Roadrunners to a 52-44 win over Arkansas-Little Rock on day one of the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic held at the Convocation Center.
The Roadrunners improve to 3-1 on the year, while the Trojans (2-1) suffered their first loss of the season.
Senior forward Katie Sandefur and freshman guard Farren Fox added 10 points apiece. Freshman guard Monica Gibbs led the team with eight rebounds and chipped in with seven points.
UALR was led by sophomore guard Heather Morris with a season-high 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field, including a career high five 3-pointers. Junior forward Jocelyn Love added 13 points.
UTSA stormed to a 20-9 lead on a fastbreak lay-up made by sophomore guard Terrie Davis with 9:06 left in the first half.
The Trojans pulled within seven points (20-13) when Morris made two free throws and sophomore guard Jessica Brown connected on a short jumper from the left side of the court.
The Roadrunners upped its lead to 26-16 on a 6-3 run to close the first half. UTSA shot 45 percent from the floor and 50 percent from behind the 3-point line, while the Trojans shot 25 percent from the field.
In the second half, UTSA built its lead to 14 points (36-22) with a 10-4 run with 13:01 left in the game. Fox led the way with six points on back-to-back 3-pointers and Mingee chipped in with three points.
Love and Morris each connected on 3-point baskets to pull the Trojans within six points (48-42) with 2:23 left in the game. This would be the closest UALR would get for the rest of the game.
For the game the Roadrunners shot 38 percent from the floor and 50 percent beyond the arc. UTSA’s defense held Arkansas-Little Rock to 28 percent shooting from the floor.
The Roadrunners return to action on Nov. 26 with day two of the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic when they face New Mexico State at 4 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
