Second half surge propels Tulsa to 63-41 win over UTSA

SAN ANTONIO - Tulsa outscored UTSA, 36-20, in the second half en route to a 63-41 win, spoiling the Roadrunners' home opener Tuesday night at the Convocation Center.
Senior guard Nicole Dunson led UTSA with 13 points, while freshman guard Farren Fox added nine.
The Golden Hurricane had four players score in double figures. Senior forward Emily Jaskowiak led the team with 16 points, while senior forward Megan Moody added 14. Junior forward Jillian Robbins and junior guard Tandem Mays chipped in with 13 and 12, respectively.
UTSA had its two-game winning streak come to a halt and dropped to 2-1 on the season, meanwhile Tulsa improves to 2-0.
Tulsa opened the game with a 7-0 lead, the last two points via a lay-up by senior forward Emily Jaskowiak at the 17:52 mark. Jaskowiak scored four points, while senior guard Kara Pongonis-Paslay added three points in the run.
UTSA pulled within two points at 8-6 behind back-to-back 3-pointers from Dunson.
The Golden Hurricane scored the next six points to go up 12-6 with 13:19 left in the frame. Moody connected on a short jumper, followed by a lay-up by Mays.
The Runners closed the gap to 26-21 with 3:03 left in the half when freshman guard Monica Gibbs hit a running jumper and Fox drained a 3-point basket from the top of the key.
Tulsa stormed to a 50-25 lead on a 23-4 run with 10:19 left in the game. Robbins led the charge with 10 points and Moody added six.
UTSA cut the deficit to 50-30 with a 5-0 run with 8:35 left. Sandefur had three points and senior center Lacy Mingee added two points.
UTSA hit six 3-pointers in the first half , but went 0-9 behind the arc in the second. UTSA ended the game shooting 25 percent from the floor, while Tulsa shot 42 percent.
UTSA returns to action this weekend with the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 25-26 at the Convocation Center. The Runners will face Arkansas-Little Rock on Friday at 7 p.m., and New Mexico State on Saturday at 4 p.m.
