Box Score

SAN ANTONIO - UTSA senior guard Andre Owens poured in 34 points to help lead the Roadrunners to a 110-68 victory over the Concordia Tornados on Saturday night at the UTSA Convocation Center in the 2005-06 exhibition season opener.

Owens, who connected on 14 of 17 shots from the field, showed why he was a preseason all-Southland Conference selection as he also pulled down nine rebounds. He was joined in double figures by Roderick Rodgers and Eric Young, with each scoring 17 points, while Abe Donlon added 12.

Concordia was led by Joel McDonald with 24 points, while Steve Nolan added 11.

"I was pleased with our performance and thought many of our newcomers really stepped up tonight," said UTSA coach Tim Carter. "Andre Owens was outstanding and did many of the things we brought him here for last season. He finished at the rim all night long."

UTSA never trailed in the contest, breaking away from a 2-2 tie by scoring 18 straight points and led 20-2 after a 3-point field goal by Owens with 14:35 to play in the first half.

Running with abandon and making numerous easy layup attempts, the Roadrunners led 58-26 at halftime as Owens had 19 first half points and UTSA connected on 23 of 35 first half field goal attempts.

UTSA continued to have their way in the second half, building the lead to as many as 47 points, 93-46 after a Donlon free throw with 7:54 to play.

The Roadrunners ended the game connecting on 42 of 65 (64.6 percent) from the field. UTSA had 29 assists as a team, with Owens leading the way with six. UTSA outrebounded Concordia by a 52-26 margin.

UTSA will play next when they open the regular season at home on Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. against Angelo State.
