UTSA Women’s Basketball Promotes Lubomyr Lichonczak to Associate Head Coach
SAN ANTONIO - The University of Texas at San Antonio women’s basketball program has promoted Lubomyr Lichonczak to associate head coach.
Lichonczak begins his 26th year of college coaching and fourth-year at UTSA this fall. Previously, he served as the associate head women’s basketball coach at Colorado State in 2002. He was the head coach at Radford University from 1990 to 2001, where he guided the Highlanders to six conference titles and the NCAA Tournament in 1994, 1995 and 1996.
He served as an assistant coach at Texas A&M, Old Dominion, Ohio State and Idaho before his Radford stint.
At Texas A&M he worked with current UTSA Athletic Director Lynn Hickey from 1987 to 1990, serving as the scouting and recruiting coordinator and had floor coaching responsibilities. At Old Dominion he helped lead the Monarchs to the Sun Belt Conference title in 1987 and the NCAA Tournament. At Ohio State, OSU was the Big Ten Conference champion four consecutive years, from 1982-85. Lichonczak began his coaching career where he received his bachelor’s degree in education, at Idaho. The Vandals were AIAW Division II Tournament participants in 1980.
The Big South Conference Coach of the Year in 1992, Lichonczak received his master’s degree in athletic administration from Ohio State in 1985.
