PLANO, Texas - UTSA junior Veronica Silva has been named to the 2005 All-Southland Conference Women’s Cross Country Team for her top-10 finish at the SLC Championships on Monday in Natchitoches, La., the league office announced Tuesday.
Silva covered the women’s 6,000-meter loop at Demon Hills Golf Course in 22:43 for seventh place to lead UTSA to a fifth-place showing in the team race. Silva’s performance is the highest conference finish by a Roadrunner since Leticia Cerna was fourth at the 2002 SLC Championship. Combined with all-conference performances from current senior Rita Lambert and Ashley McDonald at the 2004 SLC Championship, the UTSA women have garnered three league honors over the past two seasons.
In the team standings, UTSA scored 101 points and were just three points behind Sam Houston State for fourth (98) and 25 behind Texas-Arlington (76) for third. Lamar successfully defended its league crown with 26 points ahead of Stephen F. Austin (49).
Silva and Lambert will return to the course on Nov. 12 at the NCAA South Central Regional in Waco.
