| Oct. 30, 2005 SAN ANTONIO - Fresh off sweeping the second annual I-35 Challenge last Wednesday, the UTSA cross country teams will travel to Natchitoches, La., to compete in the Southland Conference Championships on Monday, Oct. 31. The men's 8,000-meter race is set for 9:30 a.m. at Demon Hills Golf Course, followed by the women's 6,000 at 10:30 a.m. The meet was originally scheduled for Idylwild Golf club near Beaumont, Texas, but damage from Hurricane Rita forced the move to Demon Hills, which is hosting the event for the fourth time in the last eight years. Stephen F. Austin is the defending champion on the men's side, while the Lamar women will look for the repeat in a tough field. The UTSA women finished third at last year's SLC Championships behind all-conference performances from 2004 SLC Women's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Year Ashley McDonald and current senior Rita Lambert, who has won her last two meets this fall. The Roadrunner men will look to improve upon their ninth-place showing at last year's meet with junior Chris Layman and sophomores Nick Perez and Eric Miller leading a deep corps of runners. Complete results and a recap will be available on http://www.goUTSA.com Monday afternoon. |
