SAN ANTONIO - The UTSA women's tennis team scored straight set victories over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in singles and against Texas State in doubles to highlight final day action at the 2005 UTSA Women's Tennis Fall Invitational played at the UTSA Tennis Center and at the Northside Anne Marie Tennis Center.
UTSA defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi by a 5-0 count in singles, and scored three straight doubles wins over Texas State. The only blemish on the day for the Roadrunners, was a loss to New Mexico State in doubles.
Natalie Wallin opened the singles win over the Islanders with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Carmen Abeauboeru at No. 1. Karen Scida scored a 7-6, 6-3 win over Erika Iriarte at No. 2. Monika Drabkova was pushed to the end but prevailed 6-3, 7-6 over Amanda Brahim. Barbara Mooney prevailed 6-2, 7-6 over Lana Burton. While Eva Silvester closed things out at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Veronica Nicholls of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
In the doubles win over Texas State, UTSA won all three matchups to prevail. At No. 1, Mooney and Wallin teamed to score an 8-4 win over Ashley Ellis and Lainy Chafitz of Texas State. Drabkova and Scida won 8-3 over Christina Amo and Jana Cucciniello at No. 2, while Silvester and Tanya Hasking won 8-3 over Natalie McLeod and Sumarie Muller.
