SAN ANTONIO - The UTSA women's tennis team went 1-1 in singles and 1-0 in doubles to highlight day one action at the UTSA Women's Tennis Fall Invitational played at the UTSA Tennis Center and at the Northside Anne Marie Tennis Center.
UTSA defeated Laredo Community College 4-0 in singles, dropped a 4-2 decision to New Mexico State, and then rallied to defeat St. Edward's 1-0 in doubles.
In the win over Laredo, Nathalie Wallin of UTSA defeated Laredo's Clelia Melena, 5-4, retired; Karen Scida defeated Cristel Antoniolo by default; Monkia Drabkova scored a 6-0, 6-0 win over Triana Palacios; and Eva Silvester won over Samantha Jackson by a 6-0, 6-0 count.
In the 4-2 loss to New Mexico State, UTSA's two wins were scored by Scida, who won 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 over Nicole Fintell at No. 2, while at No. 4 Barabara Mooney won 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 over Celina Da Fosse of New Mexico State.
UTSA won its doubles match with St. Edward's by sweeping all three matchups as Drabkova and Scida won 9-7 over Allison Paris/Regina Del Bosque at No. 1; at No. 2 Wallin and Mooney won 8-1 over Andrea Adamson/Laura Paige; and at No. 3, Tanya Hasking and Silvester won 8-5 over Janelle Otero/Mandy Salazar.
Day two action at the Fall Invitational will begin on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 9 a.m.
