HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Led by a 21st-place showing from freshman Jenna Wessels, the UTSA women’s golf team finished eighth at the Ellingson/Waterwood Fall Classic hosted by Sam Houston State at Waterwood National Golf Club (6,087 yards / par 72).
Wessels overcame a first-round 86 on Monday with a pair of nine-over-par 81s to end up in 21st place at 248. As a team, the Roadrunners turned in rounds of 350, 339 and 329 for a 54-hole total of 1,018. Oklahoma City and New Orleans tied for the team title at 950, while Therese Nilsson of New Orleans was the individual medalist at 74-74-78=226.
Also for UTSA, freshman Laura Baker tied for 29th (85-89-81=255) while freshman Allie Jordan (88-85-86=259) and sophomore transfer Stephanie Perez (91-85-83=259) both tied for 38th. Sophomore Michelle Kowalick tied for 44th (93-88-84=265) to round out the top five.
The Roadrunners return to the course on Nov. 7-8 at the Bronc Classic in Edinburg, Texas.
