Cross Country squads face Texas and Texas State in I-35 Challenge Wednesday

SAN ANTONIO - The UTSA cross country teams face Texas and Texas State in the second annual I-35 Challenge on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the UTSA Cross Country Couse. The women’s two-mile race is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., followed by the men’s two-mile at 4:20 p.m. Admission is free.

The Roadrunners are the defending champions on the women’s side, beating Texas, 20-49, and Texas State, 15-40, at last year’s inaugural meet. Texas won the men’s race over UTSA and Texas State with perfect 15-40 scores, while the Roadrunners handled the Bobcats, 16-39, in dual-meet scoring.

The UTSA women are led by senior Rita Lambert, who has been the team’s top finisher in all four meets this season. The two-time Southland Conference Women’s Athlete of the Week owns three top-10 finishes highlighted by an individual title at the Buffalo Bayou Invitational on Oct. 17, a meet won by the Roadrunners.

Sophomore Nick Perez has been the top finisher on the men’s squad in two of the four meets, including a 15th-place effort at the Buffalo Bayou Invitational. The Roadrunners won the team title at the season-opening UTSA Triangular behind a runner-up showing from the relay tandem of Perez and senior Chris Layman.

Full results will be available approximately two hours following the completion of the meet on the official web site for UTSA Athletics - www.goUTSA.com.
