UTSA-Texas matchup highlights Fall Round Robin Saturday

SAN ANTONIO - A matchup between the two-time defending Southland Conference champion UTSA Roadrunners and national semifinalist Texas Longhorns highlights the second of two fall round robin tournaments this Saturday, Oct. 22, at Roadrunner Field. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 3-18. UTSA students are admitted free with a valid ID card.

The round robin gets underway at 9 a.m. with Texas taking on Angelo State. UTSA plays Angelo State at 2 p.m. and the Longhorns at 3:30 p.m. to conclude its fall exhibition season.

UTSA went 3-0 in its first fall tournament on Oct. 8 in the debut of Lori Cook as head coach, defeating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 6-0, Incarnate Word, 3-2, and St. Mary’s, 2-0. The Roadrunners return eight all-conference players from a 42-18 team that slugged a conference record 103 round-trippers to lead the NCAA in home runs per game (1.72) for the third straight year.

Former UTSA head coach Corrie Hill is now an assistant coach for Texas, a team that lost to eventual runner-up UCLA in the 2005 Women’s College World Series. Senior left-hander Cat Osterman, an Olympic Gold medalist, Women’s Sports Foundation 2005 Sportswoman of the Year and two-time USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, leads a strong pitching staff that posted a team 0.60 earned run average last season.
