PLANO, Texas - UTSA senior Rita Lambert has been named Southland Conference/Aeropostale Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the second straight week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Lambert won the women’s 4,800-meter race at the Buffalo Bayou Invitational held Monday in Houston to help lead the Roadrunners to their first team title of the season. Lambert’s winning time of 18:08.20 placed her comfortably ahead of runner-up Tenley Determan of Texas State. UTSA had four other runners in the top 10 as they edged host Rice for the championship, 29-43.
Lambert, who has been UTSA’s top finisher in all four meets this season, earned her first-ever SLC weekly honor last Tuesday after a runner-up showing at the Texas State Classic on Oct. 15.
James Ortiz of Texas State received the weekly honor on the men’s side for the second straight time after winning the men’s race at the Buffalo Bayou Invitational.
UTSA returns to the course on Wednesday, Oct. 26 with the I-35 Challenge at the UTSA Cross Country Course.
