PLANO, Texas - UTSA senior Rita Lambert has been named Southland Conference/Aeropostale Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for her outstanding performance at the Texas State Classic on Saturday, the league office announced Tuesday.
Lambert finished second overall, covering the 4,800-meter Gary Job Corps loop in a time of 18:08 to help the Roadrunners finish third in the team standings. The all-conference runner led the race for the majority of the first 4,000 meters, eventually placing second to Landra Stewardson of Texas (17:54). The runner-up showing marked her second top-10 finish of the season as Lambert was ninth at the Rice Invitational on Sept. 17.
James Ortiz of Texas State received the weekly honor on the men’s side after winning the Texas State Classic 8K and helping the Bobcats claim the team title.
