SAN ANTONIO - UTSA freshman Andre Moreira survived two singles matches before losing a hard-fought 6-3, 6-7, 6-1 decision to Luis Diaz-Barriga of Texas in the quarterfinals to highlight Saturday's action at the UTSA Men's Tennis Invitational being played at the UTSA Tennis Center.
Moreira scored a 6-3, 6-3 win over Nicholas Porter of Texas-Pan American to open the day. He then won a 7-6, 6-2 decision over Damion Johnson of Tyler Junior College. UTSA's other standout was freshman Shaun Michael Stewart, who advanced to the consolation singles final with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Andrew Bost of Texas-Pan American.
Play will continue on Sunday at UTSA, with first match times at 9 a.m. Schools involved in the Invitational include UTSA, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas-Pan American, St. Edward’s and Tyler Junior College. Admission is free.
