CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Junior Brittany Hildebrand posted 16 kills but Andressa Lyra led four Blue Raiders in double-digit kills as the Middle Tennessee volleyball team outlasted UTSA in five games, 21-30, 30-16, 30-11, 28-30, 15-8, to win the Charlotte/SpringHill Suites Invitational Saturday afternoon at Halton Arena.

Hildebrand led the Roadrunners, who fell to 2-1 on the season, for the second straight match in kills and joined junior Meagan Daniel, who turned in 12 kills and eight digs, on the all-tournament team. Redshirt freshman Jackie Strauss added 10 kills in her first start of the year. Junior DeeDee Strickland recorded a season-high 50 assists, while junior Erin McMillan turned in a match-high 21 digs.

It was a story of two different teams in the first three games. UTSA opened strong with a 30-21 victory in game one, breaking open a tight battle with a 10-5 run for a 17-11 advantage. The Roadrunners never looked back, ending the game on a 13-10 stretch behind .486 hitting in the frame.

It was all Blue Raiders in the next two games as MT got off to 6-0 starts and soared to 30-16 and 30-11 victories.

The Roadrunners came alive in game four, a 30-28 favorable decision. Redshirt freshman Victoria Prior pounded five kills as UTSA held off MT down the stretch to force game five.

The Blue Raiders got off to a hot 6-1 start in the decisive game and never looked back en route to the 15-8 win.

UTSA returns to action with a non-conference road match at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m.
