Kearney tied for fourth, Roadrunners in 10th after 36 holes of Adams Cup of Newport First and Second Round Results | Stats
NEWPORT, R.I. – Sophomore transfer Thomas Kearney is in medalist contention and the UTSA men’s golf team is in 10th place after two rounds of the Adams Cup of Newport held Monday at the Orchard Course (7,244 yards/par 72).
Kearney fired rounds of four-over-par 76 and three-over 75 and is in an eight-way tie for fourth place at seven-over 151 after 36 holes. Bronson Burgoon of Texas A&M and Scott Brown of South Carolina-Aiken all individuals at two-over 146, while Martin Ureta of North Carolina is one shot back at 147. UTSA junior Matt Johnston is not far back in a tiw for 12th place after rounds of 77 and 76 for a 153 total.
In the team standings, the Roadrunners are in 10th place after rounds of 323 and 306. Their 36-hole total of 629 places them just 11 strokes out of sixth place, which is shared by Virginia Commonwealth and South Florida at 618. Texas A&M leads at 603, followed by South Carolina-Aiken (609) and North Carolina (610).
Also competing for UTSA, sophomore Shane Costelloe is tied for 48th (84-76=160), sophomore Nick Olivarri is tied for 66th (86-79=165) and senior John Elizondo is tied for 68th (86-80=166).
The third round is set to get underway at 7 a.m. Central.
