| Sept. 20, 2005 Contact: Kyle Stephens (210) 458-4907 UTSA falls in four at SFA Box Score NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Junior Meagan Daniel (Hereford, Texas) posted her sixth double-double of the year but it was not enough as the Stephen F. Austin volleyball team scored a 30-27, 30-19, 26-30, 30-12 victory over UTSA Tuesday night at Johnson Coliseum.
With the win, SFA improves to 3-0 in the Southland Conference and 10-2 overall. UTSA falls to 4-6 and 1-2.
Daniel had a team-high 17 kills and 10 digs, while senior Jennifer Emelogu pitched in with 13 kills and three block assists. Junior Brittany Hildebrand added 10 kills, while junior Erin McMillan posted 25 digs.
Lauren Railey and Laura Cramer led SFA with 18 and 15 kills, respectively, while Stephanie Figgers turned in a match-high 37 digs.
Game one was tight early as UTSA fought back from an 8-5 deficit to take its first lead at 10-9 on a Cramer attack error. The Roadrunners eventually took a two-point advantage at 16-14 on a kill from Daniel. SFA broke a 20-20 tie with a 6-0 run thanks to a strong serve from Cramer. UTSA would not quit, creeping to within two late at 29-27 on an ace by Daniel but a service error would end it for the Ladyjacks, 30-27.
SFA controlled game two from the onset, storming out to an 11-4 lead and never looking back. UTSA got as close as five at 22-17, but the Ladyjacks closed the door with more strong serving from Figgers and Cramer en route to the 30-19 victory.
The Roadrunners broke open a tight game three at 13-13 with a 4-1 run. SFA still trailed by three at 19-16 after a kill by junior Connie Picard but fought back to take a one-point lead at 20-19. UTSA answered with a 3-0 run behind two kills from Daniel to take a 26-23 lead. Again the Ladyjacks cut the lead to one at 26-25, but the Roadrunners used a 4-1 run from that point to close the game at 30-26 behind a pair of block assists and a kill from Picard.
The Ladyjacks blitzed to a 15-7 lead out of the gates in game four and eventually built a 12-point lead at 22-10. UTSA would get no closer than 10 at 22-12 as SFA rolled to a 30-12 decision to take the match.
The Roadrunners return to action this Friday, Sept. 23, when they travel to Lake Charles, La., for a SLC match at McNeese State.
