Former Roadrunner Danielson named to New York-Penn League all-star team

SAN ANTONIO - Former UTSA center fielder Sean Danielson earned a spot on the New York-Penn League all-star team last week.

The all-star game is 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 23, in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Danielson signed a free-agent contract with the St. Louis Cardinals in June, then reported to the club’s short-season squad, the New Jersey Cardinals. The Texas native has been starting in center field and batting lead off for the Cardinals, hitting at a .368 clip. He is also tied for third in the league in stolen bases with 17.

Last week, Danielson set a team record with six stolen bases in a 5-1 victory over the Aberdeen IronBirds. The former Roadrunner went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. He led off both the first and third innings with singles, then stole second and third each time for his first four stolen bases.

He added a sacrifice bunt in the fourth and drew a walk in the sixth inning. Then, with two outs in the eighth, Danielson knocked his third single of the day before stealing second and third once again. The six stolen bases broke the club record set by Esix Snead on Aug. 9, 1998, against the Jamestown Jammers.
