Brannon, Voyles selected for Northwoods League All-Star Game

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA sophomore pitcher Blake Brannon and junior second baseman J.R. Voyles, both members of the Thunder Bay (Ontario) Border Cats, have been selected to participate in the Northwoods Summer League all-star game scheduled for Wednesday, July 13 at Knute Nelson Memorial Field in Alexandria, Minn. Both Roadrunner players will suit up for the north division team.

The Northwoods League of comprised of 12 teams made up of current collegiate players with NCAA eligibility remaining. The league is set up similar to a professional minor league atmosphere, but players are not paid.

The Roadrunner duo certainly earned the right to participate as evidenced by their production in the first half of the summer season. Voyles was the lone second baseman chosen for the north division team and is hitting .327 with six doubles to rank second on the Border Cats' team. His 13 RBI ranks third on the team. He picked up right where he left off this spring, leading the Roadrunners to an NCAA Regional appearance and ranking second on the team in hitting.

Brannon, who missed the latter third of the UTSA season due to arm problems, has become the go-to guy for Thunder Bay. He leads the team in wins with four and has posted one of the best ERAs in the league at 2.08. He has one complete game, and opponents are hitting only .147 against the righthander.
