SACRAMENTO, Calif. - UTSA junior Ryanne Dupree is in prime position to repeat her All-America performance of one year ago as she stands fifth after day one in the heptathlon competition held Friday at Spanos Sportx Complex.

Dupree got things rolling with a 13.51 clocking in the opening event, the 100-meter hurdles. Her time was the second-fastest of the day and was worth 1,049 points. Dupree dropped down to fifth place after a solid 5-6 1/2 clearance in the high jump and then down to eighth after a 37-2 1/2 measure in the shot put. The Southland Conference Outdoor Athlete of the Year vaulted all the way back up to fifth in the 27-member field with a 24.48 timing in the 200m. She finished day one with 3,444 points, just 110 points behind first-day leader Jessica Stockard of Georgia (3,554) and only 42 points out of third place.

Dupree finished seventh in the heptathlon at last year's NCAA Outdoor in Austin, Texas, to earn her first All-America certificate.

The final three events of the heptathlon get underway Saturday at 1 p.m. Central.
