SAN ANTONIO - Juniors Meghan Chance and Ashley McDonald have been named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI University Division Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country First Team.
Chance (pictured right) and McDonald were two of 10 student-athletes chosen to the first team in the district that includes the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. It marks the second straight first-team selection for Chance and the first career honor for McDonald.
Chance, a psychology major who totes a 3.96 grade point average (GPA), is a two-time Southland Conference (SLC) Women’s Indoor Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Year. On the track, she placed fifth in the 800m at the SLC Outdoor Championships and finished sixth in the 800m and ran on the third-place distance medley relay team at the indoor conference meet this spring. A five-time Dean’s List honoree, Chance is a member of the Golden Key Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes and serves as secretary on the UTSA Student-Athlete Advisory Board
McDonald (left), a six-time Dean’s List honoree, boasts a perfect 4.00 GPA in accounting. She was named the 2004 SLC Women’s Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Year and earned all-SLC honors in cross country with an eighth-place finish at the conference meet, helping the Roadrunners to a third-place showing. A two-time SLC Cross Country Athlete of the Week, McDonald also placed 10th in the 5,000m at the SLC Indoor Championships and eighth in the 10,000m at the SLC Outdoor.
