Rogers named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American

SAN ANTONIO - UTSA junior Jessica Rogers has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America University Division Women's Softball First Team as selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Rogers was one of 11 student-athletes chosen to the first team after earning her way onto the All-America ballot following her second consecutive Academic All-District VI selection in May. The Southland Conference (SLC) Player and Hitter of the Year and first team all-conference third baseman has compiled a 3.82 grade point average as a kinesiology major. She also received UTSA’s Female Academic-Athlete of the Year honor for the second straight year in April and is a strong candidate to repeat as the SLC Softball Student-Athlete of the Year, which will be released later this month.

On the field, Rogers set SLC single-season records for home runs with 23 and runs batted in with 64 this season. She batted .384 with 78 hits, 45 runs, a .783 slugging percentage and a .416 on-base percentage for the 42-18 SLC regular season champion Roadrunners. With only the Women’s College World Series left on the national schedule, Rogers still leads the NCAA in home runs per game (0.38) and ranks second in RBI per game (1.07).

Rogers was joined by one other SLC student-athlete on the first team as Northwestern State senior outfielder Nicole Martin also received the All-America nod.
