SAN ANTONIO - Seniors Rosalind Holmes and Curtis Johnson and junior Ryanne Dupree will represent the UTSA track and field teams at the 2005 NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships on June 8-11 in Sacramento, Calif.
Holmes and Dupree each will compete in two different events on the women’s side. Holmes, a five-time Southland Conference champion this year, earned her trip to California by finishing in the top five in both the 100 and 200 meters at last weekend’s NCAA Midwest Regional in Norman, Okla. She clocked a personal-best 23.38 in the preliminaries of the deuce before securing bronze in the final in 23.49. She also finished fifth in the 100m in 11.53. Holmes ranks 16th in the 200m and 22nd in the 100m on the national qualifiers list.
Prior to the Midwest Regional, Dupree already was assured a spot in the NCAA field with the 13th-best mark in the heptathlon, a school-record 5,465 posted in winning the conference crown on May 13-14. The two-time Drake Relays champion finished seventh in the heptathlon at last year’s NCAA Outdoor in Austin to earn her first All-America certificate. Dupree qualified for nationals in the 100m hurdles with a fifth-place, 13.50 clocking at the regional meet and will enter the NCAA field with the 26th-fastest time.
Johnson punched his second career ticket to the NCAA Outdoor with a fifth-place showing in the men’s 200m at the Midwest Regional. He posted a 21.22 in the regional final and enters the national meet ranked 27th with a season-best 20.99. Two years ago, Johnson earned a trip to nationals with a fifth-place showing in the deuce at the first-ever Midwest Regional in Lincoln, Neb., and eventually advanced to the semifinal round at the NCAA meet in Sacramento.
