Roadrunner trio secures national trip with top-five finishes at Midwest Regional

NORMAN, Okla. – Seniors Rosalind Holmes and Curtis Johnson and junior Ryanne Dupree all secured their spots in the NCAA Outdoor Championships field with top-five finishes Saturday on the final day of the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships at John Jacobs Track & Field Complex.

Holmes was impressive in the short sprints for the women, posting top-five performances in the 100 and 200 meters. The Kerens, Texas, native sped to an 11.53 clocking to finish fifth in the 100m in a race won by Marshevet Hooker of Texas in 11.13. Holmes, a five-time Southland Conference champion, came back less than one hour later to time a 23.49 for third in the 200m behind Tremedia Brice of Texas Southern (23.07) and Lakadron Ivery of Baylor (23.35).

Johnson did his part in the men’s sprints, earning his second career trip to the national meet in the 200m. The Pampa, Texas, native took fifth in 21.22 in a race won by Tyree Gailes of Texas Tech in 20.70. Johnson also posted a seventh-place showing in the 100m in 10.57.

Dupree, who already is a likely national qualifier with the 13th-best heptathlon mark in the country, cruised to a season-best 13.50 to take fifth in the 100m hurdles. Nebraska’s Priscilla Lopes led all hurdlers with a 12.94 clocking.

In other finals action, junior T.R. Sissel finished eighth in the men’s 400m hurdles in 53.05. In the long jump competitions late Friday night, freshmen Steven Brown turned in a ninth-place finish on the men’s side with a 24-0 ľ measure, while Dupree and sophomore Morgan Moszee placed 13th (19-1 Ľ) and 18th (18-3 ľ), respectively, for the women.

In the team standings, the UTSA women scored 14 points to finish in 20th place, while the men scored seven for 22nd. Texas won the women’s team title with 75 points, while Nebraska won the men’s race with 92.5 points.

The NCAA Outdoor Championships will be held on Wednesday-Saturday, June 8-11, in Sacramento, Calif.
