| May 26, 2005 Roadrunners continue winning ways in SLC Tournament with 6-3 win over second-seeded Lamar Box Score The Roadrunners (25-32) are now in the winners bracket final tomorrow at 11 a.m. against sixth-seeded Southeastern Louisiana, which recorded a 4-3 win to eliminate third-seeded Texas State earlier in the day. The winner of tomorrow's game advances to Saturday's championship game and must be defeated twice to lose the title. Lamar (36-22) moves into tomorrow's 3 p.m. loser's bracket game against Texas-Arlington, which knocked out top seed Northwestern State, 4-1, in Thursday's first game. Vasquez surrendered 13 hits but continuously worked the Roadrunners out of jams. He allowed a run in the first as UTSA trailed 1-0 and gave up just one run in the sixth despite being in three bases-loaded situations. Vasquez got two consecutive fielder's choice ground out in the inning to force Cardinal runners out at home as he improved to 4-1 on the year and nearly missed his second consecutive complete game. After Vasquez allowed a homer and a single in the ninth, junior Jason Vecchio came on, got a strikeout, and coaxed a double play to end the game and pick up his second consecutive save and seventh of the year. Meanwhile, just like it had done in Wednesday's come-from win over Texas State, UTSA got the bats going late when it needed it most. The Roadrunners broke open a 2-2 stalemate in the sixth with a run on a solo home run by junior Ryan Crew and added three more in the seventh to take an insurmountable 6-2 advantage. Crew, who hit the go-ahead homer in Wednesday's win, led off the sixth by crushing a Derrick Gordon offering down the right field line as it just slipped inside the foul pole and over the wall. Crew, who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, is now 6-for-9 with two home runs in the tournament. Senior Stephen Holdren went 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored, while leadoff hitter Sean Danielson went 2-for-4, including an RBI triple in the seventh to make it 4-2 after he started the at-bat looking to lay down a sacrifice bunt. Junior J.R. Voyles went 0-for-3 but had two RBIs, while Phillip Allen and Chris Lewis provided a hit apiece in the nine-hit attack for UTSA. Colt Crawford paced Lamar with a 3-for-5 effort, including a solo home run in the top of the ninth off Vasquez. UTSA trailed 1-0 into the third inning but notched a run in the frame to tie the contest. Freshman Marshal Davis walked to lead off and moved to second on Allen sacrifice bunt. Danielson pushed Davis to third with a single, and Voyles brought the freshman third baseman home with a sacrifice fly. UTSA grabbed a 2-1 lead in the fourth as Holdren led off with a single and motored to third on a Lewis double down the left field line. Junior Lee Todesco then picked up an RBI with a ground out as Lewis was tagged out at third after Holdren scored. UTSA, which has not advanced this far in the tournament since 1997, is 2-1 against Southeastern Louisiana this year.
