PLANO, Texas - UTSA junior All-American Ryanne Dupree has been named Southland Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year and Outstanding Track Performer for her efforts at the SLC Outdoor Championships in Huntsville last weekend, the league office announced Wednesday.
Dupree won the heptathlon and the 100-meter hurdles with a pair of record-setting performances, ran on UTSA’s winning 4x100m relay team and finished sixth in the long jump in scoring a meet-high 25.5 points last weekend in Huntsville.
She broke her own school record in setting an SLC Outdoor meet record with 5,465 points in the heptathlon on Friday and Saturday, comfortably ahead of runner-up Signe Vest of Sam Houston State (5,160). That point total is an NCAA provisional qualifier, ranks her 13th on the latest national list and is the second-best heptathlon in league history behind the SLC record of 5,723 set in 1985 by former NCAA champion Lauri Young of Louisiana-Monroe. Dupree will have a chance to earn her second straight All-America certificate in the heptathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 8-11 in Sacramento, Calif.
Dupree won her second consecutive conference crown in the 100m hurdles on Sunday, speeding to a regional-qualifying time of 13.60, which also bettered the Bowers Stadium record of 13.70 runner-up Tameshia Miller of Northwestern State had set in the prelims on Saturday. That time ranks her in the top 12 on the latest Midwest Regional list.
Dupree also ran the second leg on UTSA’s victorious 4x100m relay team (included Morgan Moszee, Lyndsey Sidney and Rosalind Holmes) that clocked a stadium record and regional-qualifying 45.39 for the program’s first SLC win in the event since 1997. That marked the fifth conference gold medal for Dupree in her three-year career. She also finished sixth in the long jump with a 19-1 1/4 measure.
Dupree will compete along with several of her teammates in the Midwest Regional set for Friday-Saturday, May 27-28, in Norman, Okla. 2005 Southland Conference Outdoor Award Winners Women Athlete of the Year - Ryanne Dupree, Texas-San Antonio Outstanding Track Performer - Ryanne Dupree, Texas-San Antonio Outstanding Field Performer - Stephanie Sowell, Northwestern State Coach of the Year - Curtis Collier, Sam Houston State High Point Scorer - Ryanne Dupree, Texas-San Antonio Men Athlete of the Year - Adrian Ray, Sam Houston State Outstanding Track Performer - Adrian Ray, Sam Houston State Outstanding Field Performer - Randy Flach, Sam Houston State Coach of the Year - Curtis Collier, Sam Houston State High Point Scorer - Raul Villareal, Sam Houston State
