Johnson, Dupree headline day one effort for UTSA at SLC Outdoor Championships Live Results
HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Freshman Luke Johnson broke his own school record in the men’s hammer throw and junior All-American Ryanne Dupree leads the women’s heptathlon after four events to highlight day one action for the UTSA track and field teams Friday at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships held at York Track and Field Complex/Bowers Stadium.
Johnson bettered his own school record of 161-8 by nearly five feet with a 166-6 effort to finish second. Junior Robert Stager improved his own personal best by more than 10 feet with a 160-7 measure for fourth place. Kelly Jackson of Texas-Arlington won the hammer with a throw of 168-0.
With those 13 points, the Roadrunner men are in third place after two events with 13 points. With strong showings in the javelin, Northwestern State leads with 22 while Southeastern Louisiana is in second with 17.
Dupree scored 3,323 first-day points in the heptathlon and leads the seven-event competition by nearly 200 points over Signe Vest of Sam Houston State (3,130). The two-time conference champion, who is seeking her first league crown in this event, posted marks of 13.86 in the 100-meter hurdles, 5-6 ˝ in the high jump, 34-9 in the shot put and 24.69 in the 200m.
Freshman Ashley Allen is in fourth place with 2,942 points while junior Kandace Traywick is in 11th with 2,689.
In the men’s decathlon, junior Bryan Wolfe is in second place after the first five events with 3,596 points. He posted marks of 11.16 in the 100m, 21-8 in the long jump, 35-2 in the shot put, 6-3 ˝ in the high jump and 50.51 in the 400m. Sam Houston State’s Jesse Smith has a comfortable lead with 3,884 points. Freshman Geronimo Acuna is in fifth place with 3,375 points, while junior All-American Brandon Buteaux is in eighth place in the field of eight after fouling in the shot put, no-heighting in the high jump and not running the 400m.
In other finals action, junior Joseph Burton took 11th in the javelin with a 179-7 mark. The 10,000m runs will be contested late Friday night.
The SLC Outdoor Championships continue Saturday-Sunday.
