SAN ANTONIO - UTSA junior Jessica Rogers and senior Jennifer Davis, both products of South Grand Prairie High School, have been selected to the 2005 Academic All-District VI University Division Softball Team selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Rogers was one of 11 student-athletes chosen to the first team for the district covering the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. The third baseman recently was named Southland Conference (SLC) Player and Hitter of the Year and first team all-conference and has compiled a 3.82 grade point average as a kinesiology major. Rogers set SLC single-season records for home runs with 23 and runs batted in with 64 this season and currently sports a .384 batting average for the 42-18 SLC regular season champion Roadrunners. A second team academic all-district choice in 2004, she also was honored as UTSA’s Female Academic-Athlete of the Year for the second straight year. Rogers now will appear on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team ballot to be released later this month.
Davis was named to the second team after enjoying a career season on the playing field. The marketing major was named first team all-conference in the outfield and was voted to the All-SLC Tournament Team. A two-time SLC Hitter of the Week, she leads the Roadrunners in batting average (.400) and on-base percentage (.432) and has posted nine doubles, three triples, 12 home runs and 45 RBI. Davis also set the school’s single-game record for hits with five in an 11-3 win over Western Michigan in March.
Rogers and Davis were two of seven student-athletes from the SLC honored on the all-district team, as Nicole Martin of Northwestern State and Jana Jones of McNeese State were picked for the first team and Chrissy Dileo of Sam Houston State and Loni Rasberry and Lyndsey Gorski of Northwestern State were selected to the second team.
