Roadrunners seek conference gold at SLC Outdoor Championships Complete Release | Meet Schedule | Live Results
SAN ANTONIO - The UTSA men’s and women’s track and field teams will travel to Huntsville, Texas, to compete in the 2005 Southland Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Sam Houston State at York Track & Field Complex/Bowers Stadium. The three-day event gets underway at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 13, and continues through Sunday, May 15. Both Roadrunner squads will be in contention for the school’s first conference track title since 2001 when the men won the outdoor crown.

2004 SLC Outdoor Rewind: Larry Brooks, Carl Johnson and Curtis Johnson won individual titles to help lead the UTSA men to a fourth-place finish with 82 points, while Ryanne Dupree’s individual crown in the 100-meter hurdles highlighted the women’s fifth-place showing with 62.5 points as Texas State swept both team titles at the 2004 SLC Outdoor Championships in San Marcos. Dupree breezed to a 13.73 clocking, while Carl Johnson made it a sweep with a 13.84 in the men’s 110m hurdles. Curtis Johnson cruised to UTSA’s second-ever 100m win in 10.43, while Brooks clocked a 1:51.29 for top honors in the 800m. Other top finishers included runner-up showings by Leticia Cerna (1,500m), Jessica Snitkoff (200m), Curtis Johnson (200m) and the men’s 4x400m relay.
Men’s SLC Outdoor History: The UTSA men won their first SLC Outdoor title in 2001, scoring 131 points for the win in Arlington. The best finish outside of that title was third with 115 points in 1997. The Roadrunners have finished fourth four times, including last year and in 2002. UTSA has captured 26 individual or relay crowns since joining the SLC in 1992, including three victories last year: Larry Brooks (800m), Carl Johnson (110m hurdles) and Curtis Johnson (100m). Additionally, Leonard Byrd and Dave Hartman hold the SLC Outdoor meet records in the 400m (44.88) and 10,000m (29:57.48), respectively. Hartman was named Outstanding Track Performer and High Point Scorer in 1996, while Byrd took home awards for Outstanding Track Performer in 1995 and Athlete of the Year in 1996. Que McMaster was tabbed Coach of the Year in 2001.
Women’s SLC Outdoor History: The UTSA women have captured five SLC Outdoor team titles dating back to three consecutive crowns in 1992-94. The Roadrunners also won back-to-back championships in 1996-97. Texas-Arlington has won the most SLC Outdoor titles with six. UTSA has claimed 38 individual or relay crowns since joining the league in 1992, including Ryanne Dupree’s victory in the 100m hurdles last year. UTSA has had its share of individual honors from the outdoor championships as Joanne Kineard (1992) and Tameka Roberts (1996-97) have been named Outstanding Track Performer, Roberts (1995) Outstanding Field Performer, Roberts (1996-97) Athlete of the Year, Kineard (1992), Meg Harris (1996) and Roberts (1997) High Point Scorer and Shawn Flanagan (1992-94, 1996) and Macks Dillon (1997) Coach of the Year. Roberts also holds the outdoor meet record in the 100m (11.32) and long jump (21-8).
