Olivarri, Elizondo named to All-Southland Conference Men’s Golf team
PLANO, Texas - UTSA freshman Nick Olivarri was named to the All-Southland Conference Men’s Golf third team and junior John Elizondo was voted honorable mention as the league office released the all-conference teams Tuesday.
Olivarri posted a team-best 73.96 overall stroke average for the fall and spring seasons combined and had a top finish of second at the Del Walker Intercollegiate last November. His spring average of 75.18 was second on the squad and he turned in a top showing of 10th at the Rice Intercollegiate. Olivarri, who recorded seven top-20 finishes in his debut year, paced the Roadrunners at last week’s SLC Championships in Kingwood, Texas, tying for 12th with a seven-over-par 74-78-71—223.
Elizondo earned honorable mention honors after leading the team with a 75.06 average in the spring. He was second overall with a 74.44 mark and won his second collegiate tournament with a five-under 66-73-72—211 at the St. Croix Collegiate Classic in March. Elizondo tied for 17th with a 77-75-76—228 at the SLC Championships, one of five top-20 showings this year.
Jordan Krantz of Texas-Arlington was named Player of the Year and first team All-SLC after his individual victory led the Mavericks to the team title at last week’s conference tournament. UTA’s Jeff Murray and Jay Rees were named Newcomer and Coach of the Year, respectively. Lamar’s Dawie VanDerWalt was chosen as Freshman of the Year.
