UTSA signs three more to National Letters of Intent

SAN ANTONIO - The University of Texas at San Antonio men's basketball program announced that three players have signed national letters of intent to play for the Roadrunners next season, bringing to seven the number of new signees who will play at UTSA beginning in 2005-06.
Signing with UTSA are 6-7 forward Gabe Bernard from Pierce Community College in Los Angeles, Calif., 6-2 guard Aldrick Reynolds from Houston Nimitz High School, and 6-5 forward Chris Thompson from Blinn (Texas) Community College.
Bernard, who weighs 215 pounds, averaged 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists for Pierce this past season as a sophomore. He shot 46 percent from behind the 3-point line and was an 81% free throw shooter.
Reynolds, a first team all-region and all-district selection at Houston Nimitz, averaged 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game as a senior last season.
Thompson, a 220-pound forward, is a native of Austin, Texas and a graduate of McCallum High School. He averaged 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game last season at Blinn.
During the early signing period in November, 2004, UTSA had signed three incoming freshmen and a junior college transfer. Signing then with UTSA were 6-6 forward Kyile Byrd from Lon Morris (Texas) Junior College; 6-1 guard Tim Maiden and 6-9 center Nkem Ojougboh from Scottsdale (Ariz.) Christian Academy; and 6-4 guard Eric Young from Eisenhower High School in Houston, Texas.
Byrd, a native of Grand Prairie, Texas, averaged 10.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game as a sophomore last season at Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas.
Maiden, a point guard, averaged 9.0 points, 7.0 assists and 6.0 rebounds per game as a senior at Scottsdale last season. He formed half of a significant one-two punch for Scottsdale Christian along with Ojougboh, who averaged 12.0 points and 11.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocked shots per game. Scottsdale Christian claimed its second straight Arizona state title this past season. Ojougboh was named to the all-Arizona second team, first team all-Metro Region, all-East Valley and all-state. Maiden was an honorable mention all-Arizona selection, while also earning all-state, all-Metro Region and all-East Valley honors.
Young, who was recently rated the 48th best player in the State of Texas by Texas Hoops magazine, averaged 15.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game as a senior last season at Eisenhower.
"We are excited about all of these additions and feel that we have improved ourselves considerably for next season," said UTSA head coach Tim Carter. "We have increased our youth with four freshmen and we have added players at each position with three guards, three forwards and a center. All seven will have an immediate impact on our program when they arrive next season."
