UTSA in eighth after first round of Southland Conference Men’s Golf Championships Combined Results | Player Standings | Media Report
KINGWOOD, Texas - Behind two-over-par rounds of 74 from sophomore Kitt Thabungkan and freshman Nick Olivarri, UTSA is in eighth place after the first round of the 42nd Southland Conference Men’s Golf Championships held Monday at the Forest Golf Course (7,058 yards, par 72).
The Roadrunners carded an opening round of 15-over 303 and stand in eight place, six shots back of Texas State (297) and Louisiana-Monroe (297) for sixth and 15 behind first-round leader Lamar (288). Texas-Arlington (289), Southeastern Louisiana (293), Stephen F. Austin (293) and McNeese State (295) round out the top five.
Olivarri, a Converse Judson High product, turned in an even-par 36 on the front nine before his 38 on the back, while Thabungkan fired a pair of 37s. The Roadrunner pair sits just five strokes behind the leading trio of Trevor Sauntry and Dustin Byrd of Stephen F. Austin and Texas-Arlington’s Jordan Krantz (69).
Freshman Shane Costelloe (77/T-32), junior John Elizondo (78/T-37) and sophomore Matt Johnston (79/T-39) round out the UTSA five.
The second round is set for Tuesday followed by the final 18 holes on Wednesday.
