April 26 Tuesday, April 26 • 7 p.m. • Olsen Field First Pitch • The Roadrunners travel across East Texas to College Station for a match-up with Texas A&M tonight. • UTSA enters the game winners of six of its last eight. • Since beginning the year 1-13, the Roadrunners have gone 18-12. • UTSA is 0-4 against the Big XII this year with losses to Baylor, Texas and Texas Tech, along with Texas A&M. • The Roadrunners’ last win at College Station was the first game of the 2000 season, 4-0.
Roadrunner Tidbits UTSA has won five of its last six games...The five-game winning streak snapped Sunday was the longest of the year and tied for the fourth-longest streak in school history...Senior Sean Danielson carries a 12-game hitting streak into tonight’s game...He had four infield singles, including two bunts, in Friday’s 5-1 win over SLU and has hit .467 (21-of-45) during the streak...Chris Lewis hit a walk-off grand slam in Friday’s 5-1 win and leads the Roadrunners with 34 RBIs. He ranks fifth at UTSA with 22 home runs in just one-plus seasons...J.R. Voyles and Ryan Crew are both 7-for-7 in stolen bases this year...Voyles has been thrown out only once in his three-year career and has been successful on 15 consecutive attempts...Tonight’s starter, Steven Vasquez, has allowed just seven hits in his last two starts...Sophomore Blake Brannon has 46 appearances in one-plus seasons and is more than halfway to the UTSA career appearances record of 81...Head coach Sherman Corbett and Associate head coach Jason Marshall both played at Texas A&M.
Crew Reaches Milestone, Chasing Record Junior shortstop Ryan Crew posted four hits in the Southeastern Louisiana series last weekend, bringing his career hit total to an even 200. With one more season left to play, Crew already ranks fourth on the UTSA career hits chart and is well within reach of the record of 249 held by Jeff Juarez. As a sophomore, he had 76 safeties to rank fifth on the single season chart and leads UTSA with 60 hits in 2005.
Scouting the Aggies Texas A&M is 26-18-1 overall and 6-12 in the Big 12 conference. As a team, the Aggies post one of the lowest ERAs nationally at 3.41. Opponents are hitting just .241 against the Aggies this season. Cliff Pennington leads the Aggies at the plate, batting .351 with six round-trippers. Ryan Hill is the only other Aggie above .300 at .339. Tonight’s starter, Kyle Nicholson, is 3-0 with a 4.32 ERA in 25 innings.

A Look at the Series Texas A&M leads the all-time series 14-6 and the Aggies have claimed the last three meetings. UTSA’s last win at College Station came in the first game of the 2000 season, 4-0. Earlier this year, the Aggies, ranked 12th at the time, defeated the Roadrunners 4-1 at Wolff Stadium on Feb. 22.
SLU Series Rewind UTSA took two of three games from visiting Southeastern Louisiana at Roadrunner Field last weekend. The Roadrunnners got a walk-off grand slam in the 10th from senior catcher Chris Lewis to win game one, 5-1. Sophomore Josh Ruffin tossed a complete-game to win game two, 5-3, while the Roadrunners were pounced on 11-0 in game three
You Gotta Pitch Around Him Senior Sean Danielson has had opposing pitchers’ numbers in the last 12 games, carrying a 12-game hitting streak into tonight’s game. In the five games last week, the speedy centerfielder hit .529, including .636 in the SLU series. He posted a career high four hits in Friday’s victory. During his streak, Danielson is hitting .467 (21-of-45) with three triples. Overall, the senior transfer from Kansas State ranks second on the team with a .329 average and leads the outfield with eight assists.
Motley Crew Junior Ryan Crew continues to make an assault on the UTSA record books in just his third season. He now ranks fourth all-time with 200 career hits. He also ranks fifth now on the career doubles list with 38 and needs only three more to move as high as third. In RBIs, Crew now ranks 10th with 94 and needs just eight to move to ninth. In home runs, his total of 17 ranks him tied for eighth all-time, while his total of seven triples puts him fourth on that stat chart.
His Best Year Yet Junior J.R. Voyles is having a breakout year for UTSA and ranks sixth in the conference in batting against conference opponents. Overall, Voyles is hitting .329 and ranks second on the team with four homers and third with 25 RBIs. He already has posted 15 multi-hit games and seven multi-RBI games in 2005. Coming into the season, Voyles was a lifetime .253 hitter with just five career home runs.
Just Joshing Around Sophomore Josh Ruffin had his best outing of the year Saturday in the 5-3 win over Southeastern Louisiana. He pitched a complete game for his fourth win of the year and allowed no runs until there were two outs in the ninth inning. He also struck out four. On the year, Ruffin ranks third on the team in ERA and strikeouts in second in victories.
Marshal Law Freshman Marshal Davis made his first career start at second base last Wednesday at UTPA and recorded his first three career hits. His first career safety came during a 10-run fifth inning when he singled up the middle. Davis has seen action in eight games in his inaugural collegiate campaign.
The Green Light Is On UTSA has been successful on the base paths this season with 42 stolen bases in 44 games. The Roadrunners are 42-of-56 (.428 pct.) overall. Senior Sean Danielson leads the way with 11, while junior Ryan Crew and J.R. Voyles have seven. Ryan Saltzgaber has five. In fact, Voyles has been thrown out only once in his career during his freshman year. In 2002, he was 3-for-4. In 2004, he went 8-for-8, and he is 7-for-7 this season, making him 18-for-19 in his three-year Roadrunner career.
Good Hands Sophomore Michael McKennon and junior Lee Todesco have been brilliant in the field this year. In 41 games, Todesco has made just two errors at first base for a team-leading .994 fielding percentage, while McKennon has only goofed once in left field for a .989 percentage.
