| April 17, 2005 Roadrunners post season high 16 runs in rout of Texas-Arlington Box Score UTSA, which smashed 19 hits and hit two home runs, took two of three games from the Mavericks for the first time since 1999 to improve to 15-24 overall and 9-6 in the league. UTA fell to 21-19 and 10-5 in the SLC. The Roadrunners jumped ahead 3-0 in the first and led 5-1 after three frames. The Mavericks scored twice in the fourth for a 5-3 Roadrunner advantage, while UTSA plated one in the fourth to lead 6-3. UTA countered with two in the fifth to trail by just one, 6-5, but the Roadrunners notched eight runs and seven hits in the sixth off Maverick reliever Dillon Farish to put the game in the books. Senior Chris Lewis provided a two-run round-tripper, his team-leading fifth of the year, in the inning, while senior Sean Danielson drilled his second of the year, a three-run job, later in the frame. Junior Ryan Crew had an RBI single as did senior Stephen Holdren. The Roadrunners led 16-5 after six but could not force a run-rule ending as Maverick first baseman Ryan Nelson lifted a 1-0 pitch over the wall for a two-run home off UTSA reliever Noah Tritz in the seventh. The Mavericks added three more runs in the ninth off Roadrunner closer Jason Vecchio. Danielson and junior J.R. Voyles both went 3-for-5, and Danielson posted a career high four RBIs. Voyles scored three times. Lewis went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored, while Crew, Holdren sophomore Michael McKennon and junior Lee Todesco had two hits each. Every player in the lineup had at least one hit as the Roadrunners' total of 19 was the second highest of the season. Nathan Warrick, Josh McSpadden, Nelson and Boomer Welles paced the Mavericks with two hits each as they had 10 safeties for the game. UTSA junior Caleb Barton (3-5) tossed the first five innings to pick up the win. He struck out three and allowed just three earned runs. Michael Gardner, a preseason third team all-America pick, was hit with the loss, allowing five runs in three innings. The Roadrunners will travel to the Rio Grande Valley this week for a pair of games at Texas-Pan American. The first game is scheduled for 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 19 at Edinburg Stadium, while the second is scheduled for Wednesday, April 20 at 2 p.m. -UTSA- |
