UTSA women post two regional qualifiers, nine more season bests at Spira Invitational Complete Results
EL PASO, Texas – Senior Rosalind Holmes and junior All-American Ryanne Dupree punched their ticket to the NCAA Midwest Regional meet and the UTSA women’s track and field team posted nine additional season best marks Saturday at the Spira Invitational hosted by Texas-El Paso at Kidd Field.
Holmes raced to a regional-qualifying 23.80 to place third overall and first among collegiate competitors in the 200 meters, her fastest wind-legal time of the season for qualifying purposes. The Kerens native clocked a 23.54 at the Texas Invitational in March but the wind reading was 4.1 meters per second, just over the allowable 4.0.
Dupree leaped to a regional-qualifying and season-best 19-11 mark to take third overall and second among collegians in the long jump. Dupree provisionally qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a 5,298-point effort in the heptathlon at last week’s Texas Relays.
Dupree also registered the fastest time in UTSA history under any conditions in the 100m hurdles, a windy 13.34 for third overall and second among NCAA athletes. That time, which had a wind reading of 4.5 m/s, is .02 seconds faster than the official school record of 13.36 set by Tiffany Talbert in 2000.
Nine other season bests were turned in on Saturday, including 46.32 by the 4x100m relay team in placing second. In the high jump, freshman Ashley Allen and Dupree both cleared 5-5 to finish second and third, respectively, while Allen also recorded a season best in the 100m hurdles of 14.94 in finishing fourth among collegians behind Dupree and junior Demetria Holmes (14.47).
D. Holmes also clocked a season-best 1:04.48 for third in the 400m hurdles, while sophomore Diane Smith was second in the 800m in 2:16.96. Junior Tasha Ramos turned in the other season best, a 42-9 measure in finishing second in the shot put. She also took second in the discus with a 141-3 effort.
The Roadrunners return to action next Saturday, April 23, when the travel to Waco for the Michael Johnson Invitational.
