Mt. SAC Relays Meet Information/Results

WALNUT, Calif. – Freshman Steven Brown leaped to an NCAA regional-qualifying mark in the long jump to highlight action for the UTSA men’s track and field team during the first two days of the Mt. SAC Relays held at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.

Brown measured 24-4 Ľ, a team-best this season, to finish third in the University/Open Division and punch his ticket to the NCAA Midwest Regional. That effort improved his previous season best of 22-11 ľ by more than one foot.

Five other Roadrunners turned in season bests during the first two days of one of the top annual outdoor meets in the country. Junior transfer Justin Pitchford knocked more than two seconds off his previous season best in the 800m, clocking a 1:51.64 to place 10th in the Olympic Development Division. In the University/Open Division of the 800m, freshmen Brian Weirich and Eric Miller turned in season bests of 1:54.02 and 1:54.78, respectively. Junior Rita Lambert bettered her previous best in the women’s 1,500m with a 4:41.67 clocking late Friday night.

In other action, sophomore Scott Briscoe finished eighth in the 400m with a season-low 48.31, while freshman Luke Johnson and junior Joseph Burton finished sixth (153-1) and seventh (182-8) in the discus and javelin, respectively.

The Mt. SAC Relays continue Sunday at Lodge Stadium.
