Men’s Tennis locks up third seed in SLC tournament with 6-1 win over Southeastern Louisiana Box Score
SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas at San Antonio men’s tennis team scored a 6-1 victory over visiting Southeastern Louisiana Saturday at the UTSA Tennis Center. The win, which improved the Roadrunners to 14-6 overall and 4-2 in the Southland Conference, allowed UTSA to grab the third seed in next weekend’s conference tournament at the UTSA Tennis Center.
After the Lions secured the doubles points with wins at number two and three, the Roadrunners swept all six singles matches, with four of the singles matches going three sets.
At number one doubles, UTSA’s Ricardo Almeida and Dennis Andrade, who were honored before the match on Senior Day, defeated Julien Lousao/Olivier Nussbaum, 8-3. At number two, SELU’s tandem of Illie Babinciuc/Haris Huremovic defeated UTSA’s Hetori Chaves/Anthony Portois, 8-6. At the third spot, Paul Birkett/Ondrej Krivka knocked off Jonas Hoglund/Adam Becker, 9-7.
In singles, Andrade took a 6-7, 6-2, 6-3 victory at number one over Krivka. At number two, Almeida scored a straight-set 6-1, 6-4 win against Nussbaum. Portois rallied for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 Roadrunner win at number three, while at number four, Hoglund secured a 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 win over Lousao. At number five, UTSA’s Joe Olfindo defeated Babinciuc, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, and Chaves scored a 6-1, 7-6 win against Birkett to close the singles decisions.
The Roadrunner now turn their attention to hosting the SLC tournament April 22-24 at the UTSA Tennis Center. Third seeded UTSA will face sixth-seed Texas-Pan American in the first round.
