Jennifer Davis tabbed Southland Conference Softball Hitter of the Week

PLANO, Texas - For the second time this season, senior Jennifer Davis has been named Southland Conference Softball Hitter of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Davis, who also received the honor on March 8, makes it three straight Roadrunners as Hitter of the Week — Krystal Gibson (March 28) and junior Jenny Garcia (April 4). UTSA has six total award winners as junior Jessica Rogers and sophomore Ursula Mares swept Hitter and Pitcher honors on Feb. 15.

Davis batted .500 (8-for-16) with two doubles, three home runs, 10 runs batted in, a 1.188 slugging percentage and a .556 on-base percentage to help UTSA to a 4-1 record last week. She had two hits in each game of a doubleheader split at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (a 31-7 team that is receiving 16 votes in the latest NFCA/USA Today Top 25 Poll), driving in five runs in the nightcap on a three-run double and two-run homer off Islanders ace Sarah Pauly (27-3 record). Davis made it back-to-back five-RBI outings with a two-home run day in the series opening 9-1 victory over Nicholls State. Davis also had a hit in the other two contests, including a double in the finale, as UTSA (30-15 overall) jumped into a first-place tie with Sam Houston State in the conference standings at 13-4.

The Roadrunners return to action this Thursday, April 14, when the travel to Ruston, La., for a non-conference doubleheader at Louisiana Tech.
