UTSA relay squads shine on final day of Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas - The UTSA relay teams continued their impressive performance on the final day of the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays as the men’s 4x200-meter relay broke the the school record and the women’s 4x200m foursome posted a fourth-place finish Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

In an encore to Thursday’s record-breaking run in the men’s 4x800m relay, the quartet of senior Curtis Johnson, junior T.R. Sissel and freshmen Steven Brown and Cedric Harris waltzed to a 1:24.23 clocking to finish third behind Mississippi State (1:21.61) and Florida (1:23.01). The time eclipsed the former UTSA record of 1:24.37 set in 2002.

The women’s 4x200m relay squad of sophomores Latasha Sinclair and Morgan Moszee, freshman Brittany Epps and senior Rosalind Holmes turned in a 1:37.70 for fourth place in a race won by Texas in 1:31.97. It was the second-fastest 4x2 time of the season for the Roadrunners behind a 1:37.43 posted at the Whataburger Relays.

The men’s 4x400m foursome of sophomore Scott Briscoe, Sissel, junior David Burnett and sophomore Larry Brooks posted a fifth-place showing with a 3:12.88 clocking. Jackson State won the race in 3:06.35.

In other finals action, Harris turned in an NCAA regional-qualifying time of 10.48 to place eighth in the men’s 100m.

Both teams are in action next weekend as the men fly to Walnut, Calif., for the Mt. SAC Relays while the women head to El Paso, Texas, for the Spira Invitational.
